Pharmacy and software services company Rx Systems is to release an integrated New Medicines Service (NMS) module for its widely-used ProScript® software in time for the introduction of the new Community Pharmacy Contractual Framework on 1 October.
The new module will ensure that pharmacists can capture all the data required to deliver the additional reporting required by the NMS quickly and seamlessly, from within their existing pharmacy management system.
The module includes a series of templates, including a pharmacist self-assessment form and a semi-structured interview schedule. Fully integrated within ProScript, the module removes the need for pharmacists to re-enter NMS data into a third party application or to capture information on paper.
Ian Taylor, Managing Director of Rx Systems, said: "Despite the very tight timescales involved, I am delighted to announce that Rx Systems has developed a comprehensive NMS module that will allow our customers to meet all the requirements of this important new service.
"Although there are a number of options for record keeping when delivery of NMS begins, we firmly believe that the PMR system is the logical platform for it.
"We recognize that the pharmacy profession will be relying on NMS data to demonstrate the value of the service. That is why with this new module we have ensured that all data is stored, backed up and held in a format that can be made readily available for central collecting and reporting."
He added: "It is important that customers understand they are not obliged to use a third party web portal which may be proposed by their PCT or LPC."
Kenny Black, Managing Director of Rowlands Pharmacy Group – which uses ProScript in its 500 UK outlets – welcomed the development and confirmed that the Group would be using the new ProScript module to support NMS from 1 October.
He said: "Rowlands will be ready from 1 October to support NMS via data recorded into our ProScript system.
"I welcome the development of an integrated module, which will enable us to retain management control of NMS data rather than recording it on a separate application that is not connected to our PMR system.
"Having an integrated module should also make it quicker and easier for our staff to embrace this new service and the income it can achieve."
The NMS module for ProScript will be released to customers on or before 1 October 2011.
