The ProScript monitored dosage module support the following systems:

  • Nomad
  • Venalink
  • Manrex
  • MTS

Please contact us if you use an unlisted variant

Do you provide a multi-user option?

Proscript can run on a single computer or on multiple workstations. We can network up to around 10 workstations using Windows XP and also have several customers with 10+ workstations employing various networking solutions.

We can arrange for a professional cabling company to install CAT5 cabling. Our standard networking package delivers a future proofed physical network infrastructure for pharmacy.

Our engineer will install a switch or router as required and network all workstation PC's.

We do not recommend wireless networks for the following reasons:

The security of wireless networks remains questionable
Wireless networks are slower than wired networks
Wireless networks are less reliable and harder to support

top

Can I use my own hardware?

Customers may provide their own hardware if they wish. We recommend a “tier 1” hardware supplier such as Dell, IBM or Fujitsu. We will book an engineer who will configure hardware, install ProScript and provide training.

Please be aware that many PC’s no longer have serial and parallel ports.  If you supply your own hardware it’s important that you ensure that the PC you are providing can support a serial port modem and depending on your choice of printer you may need one or two parallel ports.

NB. Please note that the evolution of National IT programmes in England, Scotland and Wales may require pharmacy system houses to "take full ownership" of the delivery of secure systems with data encryption and multiple passwords for BIOS, operating system and software. This may make the provision of computer hardware from system houses only, mandatory in the future.

What is your recommended minimum hardware specification?

How much training time do you recommend?

We provide one day for set up and training time for all systems. One day equates to around 6 hours on site. Our field based engineer will be on site for 10am and will leave site at around 4pm. The set up and configuration of 2 systems generally takes 2-3 hours, which leaves 2-3 hours for training.

If you have not used ProScript before, 2-3 hours will be sufficient to go through the basics of labelling, entering new patients, amending details, ordering, system start up and close down. If you need to go through Monitored Dosage Systems and/or more advanced features we recommend booking a further 2-3 hour training session.

Are you Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) compliant?

Rx Systems’ ProScript system is compliant for release 1 of EPS and has full deployment authority.

Delivering EPS as a workable well managed solution for pharmacy is a complex area and will involve many changes in terms of support, hardware and working practices.

EPS is to be deployed in two releases with release one involving paper and electronic systems working side by side and extending from the initial implementation sites to cover practices and pharmacies throughout England. The main objective of this phase is to ensure the IT infrastructure is in place.

Release two will involve digital signatures and electronic reimbursement, the paper script may no longer be the legal document and patients can begin nominating pharmacies.

Rx Systems has achieved Service Management Accreditation. This a CfH requirement before any software supplier can contact the National Service Desk on your behalf. This will allow us to report and progress any problems with the EPS service to the National Service Desk.

How will Rx Systems deal with release two?

Rx Systems has coverage in all of the PCT’S selected for piloting EPS release 2. We are working closely with CFH and are at the leading edge of delivering release 2 to ProScript customers

What do I need to make my pharmacy system EPS compliant?

As a quick summary delivering EPS to your pharmacy involves the following:

Compliant PMR software and message broker
Suitable computer hardware
Dedicated telephone broadband line (via Securnet/NUMARKnet)
Managed BT authorised router
Smart card readers for each unit
Bar code scanner for each unit
Asset management software – antivirus/disaster recovery/software management.

EPS is often over simplified in terms of software compliance. We will ensure that the impact of EPS, on professional and commercial functionality, and your current working practices is kept to a minimum.

What do I need to meets the requirements in Wales?

The Welsh Assembly’s Primary Care IM & T programme is responsible for delivering the IM & T requirements of Primary Care Contractors in Wales. A  two phased approach will take place:

Phase 1

  • Investment in IT systems

The pharmacy contract delivered an IT investment of £2600 over 2005/2006.  All pharmacies had to ensure that their IT hardware and software meets the requirements of the Programme as follows.

  1. Latest version of dispensing software appropriate for Welsh requirements.
  2. Fit for purpose Hardware.
  3. Managed service:
    a.      Anti-virus
    b.      Remote Back up
    c.      Asset management software
    d.      Remote access
  4. Web browser facility
  5. Capable of receiving weekly DM & D updates
  6. Secure approved network connectivity

An ongoing payment of £200 per month is available to fund a secure N3 connection.

Community pharmacies need to ensure that they have the following:

  1. A secure, dedicated broadband line from an accredited N3 aggregator.
  2. Managed Cisco router
  3. Managed connectivity package, including Installation, network configuration and support.

Phase 2

Release 1- 2D Barcoded prescriptions
Release 2- Transmission of Pharmacy Claims.

Additional investment in IM & T - £1,000 Allowance – which has been paid to pharmacies in Wales will support the purchase of 2D barcode scanners and additional software and system functionality.

How compliant is your system with the pharmacy contract?

During the development of ProScript we have taken into consideration the future requirements to record new information during the dispensing process such as: dispensing errors; prescription intervention reporting; and minor ailments.

A pharmacy can demonstrate compliance to the Pharmacy Contract by using the ProScript system, the software’s core functionality meets the essential service criteria. All data input and tasks carried out by a user within the ProScript system are recorded, generating a complete system and professional audit. Rx System’s development team are currently working towards ensuring ProScript achieves advanced and enhanced service compliance.

top

Can you help me with broadband?

Rx Systems partners with N3 accredited aggregators securnet/NUMARKnet and as a ‘one stop’ solution provider will manage all hardware and connectivity requirements. We offer a full installation and support service to ProScript customers

top

How do you back up your system?

ProScript customers can back up their systems using rewritable CD’s and we also provide Pharmacy dataSAFE as standard. Pharmacy dataSAFE ensures automated, encrypted, secure off-site daily data backups. This backup method is more efficient than tapes, disks or CD’s. A daily incremental back-up is encrypted and transmitted via securnet/NUMARKnet to a dedicated server.

Can you transfer the data from my existing PMR system?

Data transfer is often required for pharmacies wishing to change systems.

The transfer of data to a new ProScript system is an important and complex process. Different pharmacy systems use a wide range of data structures, operating systems and storage mechanisms. Our procedures have been designed to ensure that the transfer runs as smoothly as possible, to populate your ProScript system with as much data as possible.

The amount and quality of data that we can transfer depends on the current system you are using, please contact our sales team for further details.

We offer data conversions for the following systems:

·         PSL Analyst
·         MEDIPhASE
·         Eclipse
·         LINK Script2 & LINK Evolution
·         Nexphase
·         Pharmacy Manager

Do you have a head office system?

ProManager is a flexible head office program which collates all branch data from ProScript and allows reports to be viewed or printed at the group head office. ProManager can be loaded onto a head office server, ensuring full access and control of group data, and facilitating data protection compliance.

ProManager can also be used to define and implement group policies, ensuring branches comply with group buying, dispensing and endorsing policies.

A standard list of reports is provided with ProManager but groups can also produce their own bespoke reports with any industry standard reporting package.

Information from ProManager can be exported into other applications such as Microsoft Excel or CSV files for further analysis. Bespoke interfaces can also be written for Sage Line 50, or Sage Line 100.
